Pixies | (Polaroid out-takes) 1987-1988

May 6th, 2011

An open edition of archival lithjet prints printed chemically from high resolution scans of some of the original polaroids from the Surfer Rosa shoot for the Pixies’ LP of the same name. In the last 22 years the polaroids have pertained a unique patina of decay as the chemicals have etched into the print surface. The scans were made to preserve this quality and the print size matches the original polaroid. Also offered for sale is an early version of  Monkey Gone To Heaven – Monkey Gone To Hell. The print format for this image is the same as the Surfer Rosa polaroids, except the paper is square. Each print is signed on the reverse. Shipping is extra and is priced according to country of destination. Payment can be via paypal or a UK cheque. Image colour may vary slightly from scanned JPEG reference as the latter are viewed on a back lit LED screen. Please email to simonlarbalestier@me.com for further info. This collection will expand so please bookmark this page for future reference. *Higher resolution files can be sent for more critical viewing if required. Please note prices do not not include shipping and all prints are shipped from the UK.

Please note these images are not to be confused with the limited edition archival lightjet prints carried by the London gallery Snap Galleries. For other Pixies images please visit Snap Galleries to see the Pixies Archive which includes some of the more recent Minotaur project.

A L P H A V I L L E & The 5th Quadrant (2008-present day)

May 6th, 2011

A L P H A V I L L E & The 5th Quadrant (2008-present day) are two new bodies of work shot in South East Asia. These are works in progress. A L P H AV I L L E represents a fictional futuristic city/suburbia – a hub of empty human activity. The themes embodied in the work explore the concepts faith, hope, fate, suffering, longing, pain, celebration of loss, the passing of time, nostalgia, desire, lust, emptiness, evil, saints, angels, devils, demons, gods, death, decay, afterlife, paradise, hell, irony, juxtaposition, satire, black comedy. Influenced by Jean-Luc Godard’s film Alphaville, I identified immediately with the images of neon tubes (see the  Neon Cowgirl series shot for Minotaur). This body of work is shot in saturated colour and is a new direction for me using Leica’s full frame M9 rangefinder. The 5th Quadrant represents a different type of vision – an apocalyptic world that  I had initially thought, my early black and white empty landscapes, would provide the basis for. Within this monochromatic desert world, some form of life, there is something nomadic (I think of the photograph of the Sahara Beduin Tent) and stray dogs……

The images will be available for purchase as archival lightjet c-type photographs in three sizes of limited editioned prints. The printing and shipping of the photographs will be handled by Bayeux Ltd who are based in London. Shipping costs will vary depending on country of destination. Please email to simonlarbalestier@me.com for pricing, edition sizes, shipping estimates and print availability.

* Please note these are only reference JPEGs of the actual prints the base of the paper is much whiter than it appears here and the tonality of the print is much more subtle. Higher resolution images are available for viewing please email for further info.
